Compared with traditional labels, self-adhesive labels have the advantages of no need to brush glue, no paste, no need to dip in water, no pollution, saving labeling time, etc. They have a wide range of applications, are convenient and fast. Self-adhesive is a kind of material, also called self-adhesive label material. It is a composite material with paper, film or other special materials as the fabric, adhesive on the back, and silicon-coated protective paper as the base paper. And after printing, die-cutting and other processing, it becomes a finished label. On the surface, the structure of the self-adhesive material is composed of three parts, namely surface material, adhesive and backing paper. However, from the perspective of manufacturing process and quality assurance, the self-adhesive material is composed of five parts.
1. Noodle material
That is, the surface material is a material that accepts printed graphics and text on the front side, accepts adhesive on the back side, and is finally applied to the object to be adhered. Generally speaking, any flexibly deformable material can be used as a self-adhesive material. The type of surface material depends on the final application and printing processing technology.
2. Surface coating
Used to change the surface properties of surface materials. Such as improving the surface tension, changing the color, adding a protective layer, etc., to make it better accept the ink and easier to print, to prevent dirt, increase the adhesion of the ink and prevent the printed graphics from falling off. Surface coating is mainly used for non-absorbent materials, such as aluminum foil, aluminized paper and various film materials. The coating strength of the surface material determines whether a large amount of paper powder will be produced during printing, and is also an important indicator of printing quality.
3. Apply base layer
It is the same as the surface coating, but it is coated on the back of the surface material. The main purpose of the bottom layer is:
○ Protect the surface material and prevent adhesive penetration.
○ Increase the opacity of the fabric;
○ Increase the bonding force between the adhesive and the surface material;
○ Prevent the plasticizer in the plastic surface material from penetrating into the adhesive, affecting its adhesive performance, causing the label's adhesive force to decrease and the label to fall off.
4. Adhesive (glue)
The adhesive is the medium between the label material and the bonding substrate and plays a connecting role. According to its characteristics, it can be divided into two types: permanent and removable. It comes in a variety of formulas, suitable for different surface materials and different occasions. Adhesive is the most important component in self-adhesive material technology and the key to label application technology.
5. Agent base paper
The function of the backing paper is to accept the release agent coating, protect the adhesive on the back of the surface material, and support the surface material so that it can be die-cut, waste discharged and labeled on the labeling machine. Like the surface material, the uniformity and strength indication of the thickness of the backing paper are not only related to the printing performance, but are also important indicators that determine the uniformity of die-cutting, the speed of waste discharge, and the edge breakage of the paper.

The material determines the basic characteristics of the label, the adhesive determines the adhesion performance of the label, the backing paper provides structural support and protection for the label, and the coating protects the printed pattern and text of the label.
